Rufous Hummingbirds in North Carolina during the winter

It is very surprising, even to veteran bird watchers, that hummingbirds can be found in North Carolina during the winter.  The linked article explains how this happens, and why some hummingbird enthusiasts have started leaving their nectar feeders out during wintertime.
